This note is let you know that we have donated $300 (proceeds from calendars, due to it's popularity this year we had quite a bit ($300) left over after costs).
The $300 has been donated to the CARA organisation to be applied to help the puppy in need (Fara), see story below and picture attached.
Also, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all Beagle Club Members and friends a very merry Beagle Xmas and Happy New Year.
Also, Xmas wishes from canberradogs.
Merry Xmas,
Theo and Slaves.

Fara was rescued together with her brother Freddie (you can see a picture of him in the rehomed section of the CARA website) when she was only 8 - 9 weeks old. After almost one week in care, Fara started to show gastro symptoms and was very depressed. She was brought to the vet where she was treated for Parvo. We are not sure if it really was Parvo as both pups were vaccinated in the pound and also Freddie stayed very healthy all the way through. Anyway, the vet put Fara on a drip as she was not drinking and gave her the usual treatment for Parvo. After a couple of days, Fara was able to go home again. A few hours later, her leg started to swell up due to an bacterial infection in the area where the drip was. Fara was then treated with yet more antibiotics but without success. On the following Sunday (yes, it is always on the weekend), the skin on her leg bursted open with puss coming out from everywhere. I took Fara then to my own vet, who is 35 minutes away from me but open on a Sunday afternoon. The next day Fara went into the first surgery where all the dead skin was cut away. The wound had to stay open and Fara had to be crated and got to wear cute baby jumpsuits and a Elizabethan collar to protect her leg. After about two weeks, we got the upper hand one the infection and the leg was in good condition for skin graft surgery. A huge part of her skin was taken from her belly and placed on the wound. Now we had the challenge to not move the as the graft needed to be attached to the wound at all times. Her leg was put in a splint and bandaged and we had another 12 days of crating her and teaching her to go to the toilet on the lead. You probably can imagine that this is not a lot of pleasure for a young pup. Though Fara did soooo well! Anyway, the bandage had to be changed once, as it got too loose so Fara had to have another anaesthetic, but all went well in the end and after another week of being in the crate, Fara is now running around with the other dogs again. She still gets tired very easily as she has lost a lot of strength but she is happy and healing very well.
Fara is pretty much able to go to a new home but she still needs to get desexed and I want to give her a little bit more time before she goes trough yet another bet proceedure.

Congratulations to Kate, Chris, Dusty and Jemimma on the arrival of Ben (Kate) and puppies (Jemimma)

Truffles - My Mum and my sister made 4 dozen 'animal' cup cakes for RSPCA cup cake day this week. As Mum works for Centrelink in the National building in Tuggeranong, they went very quickly. Money for RSPCA raised by Centrelink was close to $1,500.00. Hey, isn't that good to help our fellow pooches and other feline mates
